A little older, a little wiser
As Hinsdale residents know from experience, with growth come growing pains. On Oct. 2, 2007 the innaugural issue of the Hinsdale Monitor investigated Woerner and the BOT's expensive and unprecedented crusade to oust ZBA Chairman Tom Nelson, the respected volunteer, whose efforts helped village officials reverse course on the flawed and illegal Garfield development. (See Article) As the year progressed, our volunteer writers were hard pressed to keep up with the the Nelson case and other controversial issues facing the community, including: the "Sedgwick" rezoning; the Zoning Code rewrite; the utility referendum; the 2007-2008 budget; the 2008-2009 budget; the contemplated land swap between District 181 and the Village to relocate HMS to Veeck Park; proposed condo development on the Amlings site; the redevelopment and expansion of Northown and the Central Business District; the Hinsdale Club negotiations; and the foray on Hinsdale parks - sewage treatment at Veeck, and now a proposed text amendment to the Zoning Code to allow 60-ft. stadium lights in all the other parks. In order to expand our coverage and adequately meet demand, the time had come to regroup and revamp.
The first step to address appeals for consistent coverage of village issues from the residents' perspective was to update our web site format. The kinks appear to be resolved, and the fresh look should carry us forward for some time. Other important details--creating an editorial board and policies, addressing staffing and administrative concerns--are still a work in progress. We'll keep updating this page as more information becomes available. In the meantime, a year into the game, The Hinsdale Monitor continues to strive for in-depth, well-researched and thoughtfully written analysis of village issues and how they affect residents and taxpayers of this community, in other words: "The Resident Point of View on Village News".
