What's in an endorsement?

We offer a residents’ perspective on local politics, which is often missing from papers of record, where correspondents--typically not Hinsdale residents--come and go. Hinsdale is a small village, where people are connected to one another by no more than a couple of degrees of separation. They get their coffee together, ride the same trains, wave to one another at intersections, and stand on the sidelines cheering the same teams.

As the Candidates who have earned the endorsement of the only two resident committees, the Hinsdale Caucus and Hinsdale First, Cauley, Geoga, LaPlaca and Saigh merit serious consideration. The Hinsdale Monitor regards this distinction as highly significant at a time when special interests are vying for a place at the table. Efforts to dismiss or minimize the consensus of dozens of volunteers is a disservice to our community.

The Hinsdale Monitor believes that Cauley, Geoga, LaPlaca and Saigh have demonstrated that they will enhance our quality of life, our property values, and political culture.  It's official: the Hinsdale Monitor is voting for a New Direction.

March 28, 2009

The Hinsdale Monitor proudly endorses Tom Cauley for Village President; Doug Geoga, Laura LaPlaca and Bob Saigh for Village Trustees

Cauley, Geoga, LaPlaca and Saigh have all excelled as public servants. Now they want to give back to their community, and lucky for Hinsdale, these candidates are qualified and ready to serve.  If any candidates can fulfill campaign promises to fix the roads, restore civility, revitalize the downtown, stimulate development, and breath some life back into our languishing financial condition, these are the ones who can do it.  Untainted by the costly mistakes and choices of the Woerner administration, these leaders in the fields of law, business, finance, and community service will deliver on the pledge to end "business as usual" and take Hinsdale in a new direction.

Tom Cauley for Village President

Tom Cauley
for Village President

Tom Cauley has remained a consistent voice of fiscal responsibility and civility during his two years on the Village of Hinsdale Board of Trustees. With a background in accounting and law, Cauley has the skills and realistic approach needed to tackle Hinsdale's mounting fiscal problems.  In dealing with residents, developers and staff, at all times Cauley has demonstrated an exemplary level of professionalism, ethics and competence that sets him head and shoulders above the other candidates. Cauley has proven that he is an independent thinker who inspires trust among all constituents, has a quick grasp of the issues, and has the intelligence and vision to lead the Village.  By his own admission, Cauley is not a "politician" and has publicly stated that he will not resort to negative campaign tactics, misinformation and personal attacks.  While other candidates may invoke civility and ethics, Tom Cauley has walked the walk--consistently acting as an advocate for the best long-term interests of the Village and its residents.

The Hinsdale Monitor votes for Tom Cauley for Commander in Chief.

Doug Geoga, Laura LaPlaca and Bob Saigh
for Village of Hinsdale Board of Trustees

These trustee candidates have demonstrated their commitment to the Village with years of service. Their skills, experience and perspectives on village matters make them a dynamic team that will serve Hinsdale with energy and purpose.

Doug Geoga
for Village Board of Trustees

Doug Geoga for Village TrusteeCreative, thoughtful and deliberative, Harvard-educated attorney Doug Geoga will use his financial and high-end real-estate development experience to attract new revenue sources to Hinsdale. As the past president of Global Hyatt, Geoga is uniquely positioned to negotiate on behalf of Hinsdale.

Geoga's Plan Commission service and zoning knowledge, in tandem with his familiarity with a balance sheet, will make him a tremendous asset to the financial well-being of our Village.

The Hinsdale Monitor thinks Doug Geoga is the real deal.

Laura LaPlaca
for Village Board of Trustees

Laura LaPlaca for Village TrusteeExperienced Plan Commission Chair Laura LaPlaca is an attorney and volunteer who understands the gate-keeper role of the Plan Commission.

Time and again LaPlaca has demonstrated a capacity to listen to and weigh the concerns of residents and developers alike, earning a reputation as a consensus builder.

Laura has stated that she will work hard to reinvigorate downtown Hinsdale and restore a spirit of camaraderie among residents.

Laura gets a standing ovation from the Hinsdale Monitor.

Bob Saigh
for Village Board of Trustees

Bob Saigh for Village TrusteeBob Saigh gets the job done.  He spearheaded the Zook House relocation and the preservation of Immanuel Hall. A past Historic Preservation Commissioner and long-time Hinsdale Historical Society officer, Bob has saved the treasures from Hinsdale's past for future generations.

A member of the Zoning Board of Appeals, Saigh will continue to use his analytical and communication skills to serve the Village.

A tireless volunteer, Bob Saigh is determined to restore pride and value to the community.

The Hinsdale Monitor believes Bob Saigh has the Right Stuff to be Trustee.
