Press Release

Hinsdale First - a 'First' for Hinsdale

Hinsdale First held its first meeting last Thursday, April 17, 2008 at the Community House. Recently registered with the Illinois State Board of Elections, Hinsdale First is a political committee formed for the purpose of supporting candidates and public policies that promote the committee's platform. A lively and enthusiastic group of Hinsdale residents attended last week's meeting and contributed their ideas toward the formation of the planks of the platform and the planned Hinsdale Citizens' Bill of Rights. Hinsdale First will endorse and campaign for candidates who pledge to uphold the group's platform. Hinsdale First plans to endorse 3 candidates for trustee and one for village president in the April 2009 election.

Chris Elder, Chairman of Hinsdale First stated, "Many citizens have expressed a desire to restore representative and appropriately scaled government to Hinsdale. There is growing discontent with the current administration and many residents believe that Hinsdale is being run like a big business rather than a small village." Elder added, "Although progress is important, development should not come at the expense of property values, green space or the fundamental character of Hinsdale, which has been a unique and thriving community for over 130 years."

The majority of residents present agreed that the planks of Hinsdale First's platform should include:
1. Fiscal responsibility
2. Importance of small, transparent government
3. Respect for residents
4. Safeguarding parks and green space
5. Trustees you can trust
6. Upholding Hinsdale's zoning code
